Leadership Role

3 mast sailing ship

After missing a deadline, a co-worker said, “I guess I’ll have to take more of a leadership role.” I understood what they meant, but I’m not sure I agree.

I have a problem with how “leadership role” gets used. Too often, people say it when what they really mean is, “I want to be in charge.” As in, I want people to do it my way.

I think a better idea would be “I want to take more of a helping role.” I’m guessing the original problem was my co-worker didn’t get involved with the project until it was too late.
