macOS upgrade and I hear everything

I clicked upgrade and walked away. Logged on this morning, and macOS read everything under the mouse out loud. I got a couple of suggestions from Gemini, neither correct. Went to settings search for ‘speak’ and saw ‘speak item under the pointer’. Sure enough it was enabled as was ‘speak selection’. I don’t remember enabling these. Maybe there’s a keyboard shortcut I accidentally clicked?

In case it is a ‘feature’ of the upgrade, I thought I’d share my experience. 🙂

How to find it:

  • Click the Apple menu () in the top left corner of your screen.
  • Select System Preferences.
  • Click on Accessibility.
  • In the sidebar, click on Spoken Content.
