The urge to do one more thing, and the search for a time slot to meet are a couple of signals I use to tell me I'm being rushed. When I'm rushed, I have blinders on and miss the needs of others. I don't give people the amount of attention or time required to treat them as human. I think of them as resources or obstacles.
"Speed Kills" as the saying goes. Slowing down is typically the answer. The mystery is I don't accomplish less when I slow down. I accomplish fewer tasks, but I accomplish more value. I make progress on the "right" agendas or projects.
And I forget. As pressure builds, I start to pick up the pace. I start to hurry. I worry about being late. Again, I must remind myself to slow down, take a breath. Tactically, I pick something important, set a timer for 25 to 45 minutes depending on schedule, and focus. I relax knowing the other important tasks will get their turn.
