Order from Chaos

Published July 22, 2024

Casual observation tells me that life brings order. Honey combs, spider webs, and bird nests are a few examples. Without the spark of life comes decay, disorder, dissolving.

Living takes energy, effort. Life is smoother and more fulfilling if lived in harmony with nature. Don't fight against the design. Bring order out of chaos. The simple practice of Lean's 5 S's are a good example. If I get a little restless, vague, or just don't feel confident of my main objective at the moment, I'll call a 15 minute break for myself to perform the 5 S's (https://asq.org/quality-resources/lean/five-s-tutorial):

  1. Sort
  2. Set in Order
  3. Shine
  4. Standardize
  5. Sustain

I actually focus on the first 3 when it's a spare moment. The last two are more of a deliberate effort each day. The cost is zero and the pay off is big. If you would like some more ideas and material, I recommend Paul Akers. He's my kind of crazy, and he gives away all of his material for free.
