2. No Right.

Before: Promise. --- After: Goals

In the late 90s, I was an assistant service garage manager. Don't let the title fool you. I worked from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday and at times, half day on Saturday. I was yelled at everyday, and the systems in place at the garage could not meet the minimum expectations of our customers. I was stressed. The job payed well for my age and education, but I wasn't happy, not even close.

One particular winter morning, I was standing in blowing snow scraping ice off of windows, so I could write the VIN numbers down. My fingers were so cold I couldn't easily write and then the lights shut off. Turns out the automatic shut off was before the sunrise. I was done. I distinctly remembering I had to make a choice. I would either walk through life like a lump on a log or I'd find a different path. And I knew deep down that I didn't have the right to be a lump on a log.
